Forest Management Planning
|
Planning is essential for the successful management of land and timber. Our professional foresters work closely with clients to design management plans to meet their goals and objectives. Plans can be custom designed to maximize timber revenues, improve wildlife habitat, provide recreational opportunities, plan for future development, or integrate all goals into a "multiple use" system. Plans have flexibility built in so if objectives or markets change, management practices can be adjusted with minimum impact to the resources. |

MANAGEMENT ACTIVITIES
The activities that occur on a timber tract are planned and carried out to improve the tract characteristics that will achieve the goals set forth by the owner. The experienced staff of SFC will plan, schedule and efficiently carry out these activities. The price of good management pays the landowner back many times in increased returns and reduced costs. |

from soil and foliar analysis to insure the correct application
of fertilizer to optimize timber growth. |
TIMBER AND WOODLAND INSPECTIONS AND EVALUATIONS
| Periodic inspections of timberland property are necessary to assess the tract and stand conditions. This can be beneficial to absentee landowners to help monitor their land as to trespassing, insect infestation, disease, and storm damage that may be affecting their property. Customized inspections can be done to specifically address the landowner’s needs. |
- Insect and Disease Monitoring
- Annual or Periodic Tract Inspections
- Boundary Line Location, Marking, and Posting
- Identification of invasive, non-native plants/shrubs/trees
(kudzu, tallow, wisteria, bamboo, Japanese honeysuckle, privet, yaupon,
tung oil tree, etc.)

TIMBER INVENTORY AND APPRAISAL
Timber valuations are routinely done for estate appraisals, timber sales, acquisition of properties and disposition of properties. Modern computer hardware and software and data recorders for in-the-field collection of data allow SFC to practically, accurately and cost effectively collect, analyze and value timber inventory information on tracts of all sizes. Statistical data and measurements are used to ensure the validity and accuracy of all information.
Timber damaged by a natural disaster, such as a hurricane, can amount to a great loss. Being able to market and harvest this timber quickly can prevent further losses for the landowner. Having worked through two major storms that hit the southeast (hurricanes Kate and Opal), SFC has extensive experience on how to market storm damaged timber. Additionally, SFC provides services to landowners who might have experienced timber theft or trespass. Damage appraisal may also be necessary in the event of a timber trespass where timber has been cut due to an error on a third party’s account.

GPS MAPPING AND ACREAGE CALCULATIONS
Southern Forestry Consultants has state of the art field GPS data collection units to give you precision maps and acreage calculations. Satellite technology is used to produce 5-meter precision accuracy. Timber stand maps are an integral tool to be used in the planning and management of forest and wildlife resources.
GPS measurements ensure accurate accounting and billing for acreage computations involved with site preparation, herbicide application and planting. |
